Applications open for 2026/27 Dream Programme for coaches

Basketball Ireland is excited to open applications for the 2026/27 Dream Programme. Entering it's third year, this innovative mentorship initiative is designed to elevate and empower the next generation of basketball coaches across the island of Ireland. This programme will provide 20 aspiring coaches with the opportunity to be mentored by some of the country’s most experienced and respected coaching mentors.

This year there will be two Dream Programme cohorts running concurrently. The first will be for female only coaches and feature female mentors while the second cohort will be open for all to apply. There will be 12 spots open in the female only cohort and 8 in the open cohort.

Both Dream programmes are designed for coaches of all levels, whether they are just at the very beginning of their coaching journey or have some years of experience who are looking to upskill their coaching under the mentorship of expert coaches. The Dream program will offer participants monthly small group sessions focused on different topics as well as 1:1 sessions aimed at providing participants tailored support in different areas. The program will run Oct-April with the entire program meeting together for a game at the cup finals in Jan.

The female Dream Programme cohort is viewed as a significant step towards increasing female representation in sports coaching, particularly in basketball, where the need for diversity and inclusion is more important than ever. By focusing on mentorship, the programme aims to provide participants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel in their coaching careers.
